The Counseling & Psychiatric Service

Primary mental health resource assisting students in overcoming difficulties that interfere with the attainment of their personal and educational goals. The efforts of the staff are aimed at helping students to develop greater self-understanding, to identify and solve problems, and to improve academic performance.

Department of Public Safety

Located in Village C West, Georgetown University’s Department of Public Safety is in operation twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. That Department staff endeavors to ensure safety and to protect life and property at the University. Public Safety officers are unarmed, commissioned special police officers, vested through the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department. Officers have the ability to protect and defend the University, including full powers of arrest. DPS staff investigate incidents in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police Department.

Health Education Services

Health professionals help students deal with a range of personal health topics, including pregnancy, alcohol and drug use and abuse, adult children of alcoholics, nutrition, eating disorders, sexual health, sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and general health promotion. All services are individualized, confidential, and free for students, unless otherwise indicated.

Student Health Center

The Student Health Center (SHC) is established to serve the medical needs of students at Georgetown University. The Center is under the direction of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, staffed by full time Family Practice faculty physicians and nurse practitioners. Students can receive the same scope of services that they expect in their family physician's office.

Academic Support Services

The Academic Resource Center, a department within Student Affairs, offers an array of academic support services, including academic workshops, individual consultations, and tutoring. Students are encouraged to consult with an Academic Resource Center representative to discuss their academic needs so that appropriate University resources can be recommended to match their academic needs. Along with academic workshops and individual consultations, the Academic Resource Center offers free tutoring services in a variety of courses and a range of levels.

Campus Ministry

Georgetown’s campus ministers continue a centuries-old tradition of providing pastoral care for students, faculty, and staff. Center for Multicultural Equity and Access

CMEA promotes educational excellence and racial equality at Georgetown University by serving the interests of African American, Latino, Asian Pacific American and Native American students.  We dedicate ourselves to the academic success and personal development of these students in Georgetown College, the McDonough School of Business, the School of Foreign Service and the School of Nursing and Health Studies; we work to ensure that they graduate, and that they do so prepared to lead meaningful, self-sufficient lives and to make positive contributions to society. Disability Support Services

Georgetown University is committed to ensuring that no student is denied access to its programs, facilities, services, or activities, or otherwise discriminated against, on the basis of a disability. Consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the University will make reasonable accommodations for students with documented learning, physical and/or psychological disabilities. The Academic Resource Center is responsible for evaluating requests for accommodation, and does so on a case-by-case basis in a manner designed to preserve confidentiality and provide students with as much independence as possible. GERMS (Emergency medical services)

GERMS is the Georgetown University Emergency Response Medical Service, a professional, non-profit, volunteer ambulance service. GERMS provides Basic Life Support (BLS) service to Georgetown University Main Campus and the surrounding community. All members of GERMS are District of Columbia certified EMT-B's and most members are also nationally certified. GERMS' two ambulances transport patients to Georgetown University Hospital, located conveniently on the University's main campus; to George Washington University Hospital, a level one trauma center; and to Sibley Memorial Hospital. Advanced Life Support (ALS) services are provided by DC Fire & EMS paramedic units.

John Main Center for Meditation and Inter-religious Dialogue

The John Main Center for Meditation and Inter-religious Dialogue is an open, ecumenical center of silence and reflection existing to teach meditation and support its practice for all wishing to learn. Sports and Fitness Center, Law Center

The facilities at the Sport & Fitness Center include a lap pool, locker rooms with whirlpools, fitness area, fitness assessment room, music room, two massage rooms, two group exercise studios, one Spinning® studio, two racquetball courts, and 8,400 square feet of multi-purpose court for basketball and volleyball.

Sports Medicine Program

The Sports Medicine Program consists of a physician, board certified in family medicine and sports medicine, who spends 3 days/week at the Student Health Center, evaluating students for sports medicine Topics. The Sports Medicine Program is available to anyone and is not limited to just highly competitive athletes, but also recreational athletes such as those participating in intramurals, runners or simply someone that plays "pick-up" basketball or ultimate frisbee.

Student Insurance Office

To improve the health and wellness of our community, Georgetown University (GU) requires most students registered as full-time in a degree program to have health insurance. You may waive out of the university plan if you have health insurance or opt to purchase the plan designed specifically for GU students. The Student Insurance Office is available to assist students with their insurance needs.

Students' Self-Care Guide

The Students’ Self-Care Guide, created by American Institute for Preventive Medicine, guides students through signs and symptoms and provides advice on how to treat the illness. It is not meant to be a substitute for expert medical advice or treatment. The information is given to help you make informed choices about your health.

The Women's Center

The Women's center provides women and men students, faculty and staff with information, services and programs that address matters of particular concern to women -- while exploring the connections among gender, race, economic status, sexual orientation, culture, religion, political views and other significant elements in relation to women's individuality and collective identity. Through a commitment to educate, advocate and care for the whole person, GUWC provides opportunities for total campus involvement while attending to the specific needs and concerns of women at Georgetown University.
